Teal Lake at Bay Club
A glistening reality
Now, no matter which way you set your sites at Bay Club, you’re rewarded with a glistening view of emerald, shimmering water. In front of you, sparkling San Antonio Bay stretches as far as the eye can see. Behind you, the new Bay Club’s new Teal Lake has been completed and is brimming with water. Now in its initial stages, extensive landscaping will further enhance its beauty. Stocking of the lake with bait fish is scheduled for spring. As soon as our biologists determine their populations are stable and thriving, larger game fish will be introduced. Flocks of coastal birds can already be seen making themselves right at home around the lake. And with construction beginning on several new residences, Bay Club lot owners are beginning to follow suit.

Bay Club: From an Architect’s Perspective
You can hear some things so often they become cliché; rarely do they pan out to live up to their billing. Falcon Point is one of those rare exceptions; it truly is as if you are transported out of Texas. From an Architect’s view, the setting is so foreign to what one thinks of as Texas or even the Texas coast. The vistas, topography and remote setting all lead to create a one of a kind community whose architecture is tied to the land and the lifestyle. As one begins designing, you can immediately see the care that went into the planning guidelines to ensure that the architectural designs enhance each lot and the community as a whole. Defined yet flexible, the options for the home’s character are virtually limitless. Reminiscent of a laid-back, bygone era, with hints of neo-classical architecture, the homes will feature the best of indoor and outdoor coastal living. Decks and vistas from the homes span the stunning sunsets on the bay. You may begin by designing a home, but you end by creating a retreat from the world and you will find Falcon Point a hard place to leave.

Less Than 20 Lots Remain
One of the most exciting junctures in the life of any new development is the point at which it turns the corner from being simply the vision of a dynamic community full of people, to actually becoming one. The completion of Bay Club Drive and the imminent groundbreaking on several new homes, signals that Falcon Point has entered this new era. The place is crackling with excitement as lot owners are now free to design and build the vacation and retirement homes of their dreams at Bay Club. These days I get regular calls asking for residential designers, architects and builders that can generate the blueprints and raise them to reality. It is really fun for me to help guide and facilitate the whole process from lot (and view) purchase, to considerations for design and onto completion and move-in. Seeing that first sunset from the veranda of a new Bay club home is going to be a stellar moment!
We have the pleasure of introducing several new property owners who have recently joined our exclusive family. Please join me in welcoming:
— The Tom Campbell Family
— Brian Goodsell
— Will Houstnoun
— Eric and Robyn Schwoch
— Mr. and Mrs. David Williams
— Keith Williams
We only have about 20 available lots remaining at Bay Club. Then it will be all over until our next phase. Please give me a call if you would like to come down and enjoy a weekend, go fishing or hunting and look at property. I have several recommendations for builders and designers if you are ready to get going on your dream home. My number is 830.377.6091.

Coastal Culinary Creations
A visit to Falcon Point Coastal Ranch is also a treat for the palate. Every dish we serve is a personal creation of our culinary staff inspired by our unique seaside/ranch location. Whether the meal is lunch for a large corporate gathering or a romantic sunset dinner for two on the veranda, the same individualized care goes into its preparation. Everything is made from scratch using the freshest possible ingredients.

We subscribe to a more European philosophy of procuring ingredients. Instead of stockpiling large amounts of supplies from an institutional purveyor, we shop on an“as needed” basis to ensure
quality. Menus are created based on what’s in season and what’s the freshest. Fruit, vegetables, seafood, wild game and fresh beef is sourced locally whenever possible. The results are delectable. A recent evening featured seasonal soft shell crab, pan sautéed or fried, covered in a garlic and leek ragua accompanied by seasonal vegetables. The meal was capped off with a sinfully delicious white chocolate cheese cake with candied pecans and spiced vanilla bean anglaise. What will be waiting to tantalize your taste buds? There’s only one way to find out. Schedule a trip to Falcon Point.

Falcon Point Coastal Ranch
Hunting & Fishing Roundup
With Brent Pierce/Ranch Manager and Josh Waghorne/Ranch Foreman
Duck Hunting
“It’s looking like we’re going to have a very good duck season. The main reason is the lack of inland rain. When the land-based water holes are dried out, the ducks generally move out to the bay into the marshes. We’ve already seen a large amount of ducks and geese in the last few weeks.
Duck hunting at Falcon Point is some of the best anywhere. We’ve got over 1000 acres of private marsh. Blinds are all set and spaced where you don’t have to worry about somebody hunting right next to you and blowing your birds off. We don’t put too much pressure on our marshes because we don’t hunt areas too many days in a row and chase out the birds. This is a private lease, not public, so we can control things like that. There’s no trudging through the marshes to get to a blind. We drive you right up in a boat. So you spend less time hiking and more time hunting.”

Fall/Winter Fishing Report
“Fall and winter is a great time of year to fish. There are fewer people, prettier days, bluer skies, cooler temperatures and better quality fish. The redfish catch has been excellent and trout is turning on. That has to do with the freshwater situation. Without as much freshwater coming into the bay, the fish move further out in the bay. A lot of winter fishing is for trophy trout. Croaker season’s over so you start catching bigger trout wade fishing with live shrimp or even artificials. The big trout hang out up on the shell or in the mud when these cold fronts come through. After the front comes through and everything slicks, the guts going into the back lakes are producing lots and lots of fish. All through the winter is great fishing and we have the guides who can put you on the fish no matter what time of year.”
Father & Son/Daughter Hunting Packages
“This is a great way to introduce your son or daughter to the world of hunting. We have permits to harvest 40 whitetail does and spikes during the current hunting season and we’ve put together a great package. It includes 1½ days of guided hunting, 1 deer or Wild Russian Boar Hog, 2 nights at The Lodge with 1 luxury room, 3 meals including beverages & hors d’oeuvres per day plus skinning and quartering of animals. All for only $1,250. And an additional person can be added for $250.”
Have a Blast with a Cast & Blast
“Our unique location as a coastal ranch provides a lot of opportunities for a day of shooting and fishing. Our corporate meeting clients love it. We can do just about any combination you can think of. Duck hunting in the morning and bay fishing in the afternoon. Or fishing in the morning and a skeet tournament in the afternoon. You get the idea. Believe me, it makes for some pretty interesting wagers.”

Putting You on the Big Ones
The Fishing Guides of Falcon Point Costal Ranch
In every edition of Straight to the Point, we throw the spotlight on one of our professional fishing guides to give a little insight into what’s happening this time of year in the waters of San Antonio Bay.
Featured Guide: Gary Gray
If local knowledge is the key to being a good guide then Gary is your man. Born and raised in Seadrift, he’s been fishing San Antonio Bay since he could walk. Running around the bay in homemade skiffs, he and his buddies got to know every nook, cranny and reef. In fact, Gary got his first commercial license to catch crab when he was 12. After a stint as a professional motocross racer, he decided to get out while he was still in one piece and sold his last motorcycle to buy a boat. Gary’s been guiding clients to trophy catches for 22 years. Six years ago, it became a family affair when his wife, Shellie, also started guiding. Fishing together in the Redfish Series Tournament, they were the 2006 Team of the Year and finished 4th this year.
Some thoughts from Gary:
“San Antonio bay is one of the best places to fish on the Gulf Coast. It’s got a little of everything. You’ve got the back lakes and the flats, plus ultra shallow water and deep water reef fishing in the middle of the bay. Or you can go up to where the Guadalupe River watershed feeds into the bay and fish for river catfish. The bay is known for producing trophy speckled trout and redfish and is probably as good a fishery as anywhere up and down the coast.
The variety is awesome and it gives you a number of opportunities to change your strategy during a typical day of fishing. From wade fishing to fly fishing to drift fishing, you can do it all. We might start early morning wading the flats or the back lakes for trophy redfish or trout. When the sun gets up higher, we move to the drop-offs in the deep bay to fish for trout where they go for the cooler water. Or we move to the center of the bay to fish the reefs or the gas wells.
Fall and winter is actually my favorite time to fish. The weather is usually nice and comfortable and the fish are plentiful. If there’s a cold front coming in, you can launch from Falcon Point Lodge and go straight up to the river where it’s sheltered by the trees. There are more protected areas than anywhere on the coast, so you can fish no matter which direction the wind is blowing or how hard it gets. There are very few days when you can’t catch fish here. We suit our trips to the desire of the individual fishermen, whether they’re a beginner or a pro. And we stay in communication with other guides to make sure we put our clients in the middle of the action. Come on down to Falcon Point. The fishing’s always great.”
